How to walk into a new gym… without the nerves!

Have you ever been scared to walk into a new workout class?

Maybe you’re worried that everyone there will already know what to do, and you’ll be confused and embarrassed.

Or that the other participants will be going super fast on the cardio machines or lifting super heavy weights and you won’t be able to keep up - and what if they judge you?

Here’s an industry secret: every single person is nervous the first time they walk into a new gym or workout, even if they are an Olympic athlete.

It’s natural, normal, and our brain’s way of protecting us! However, it’s also a roadblock that’s going to stop us from reaching our health and fitness goals, but only if we let it.

So how do you beat the nerves and move forward with confidence?

You remember a couple of truths:

  1. Everyone is nervous, unsure, and self-conscious when trying something new. Every single person in that gym or class has felt how you do.

  2. The trainer or coach leading that workout wants you to succeed. It’s their job to help you understand what to do and how to do it safely. They are on your side!

  3. This is the most important one: No one else in that class is thinking about, judging, or even watching you! They are focused on their workout, not yours. Their paces, their weight, their technique - not you. The only thing you’ll get from them is good energy!

At RiseUp Fitness, our trainers are thrilled to have someone new in class, and one of the best parts of our vibrant workout community is how welcoming, encouraging, and supportive they are from Day 1.

Ready to try it? Let’s get you started with a free workout here, and we’ll show you how great the first time can be.
